Application of foam aluminum sheet-make car bumpers

At present cars are equipped with bumpers made of plastic or steel ,it does not have the absorption impact kinetic energy function, can not play the insurance role. The car bumper made of aluminum foam sandwich can absorb the kinetic energy of impact and improve the safety of the car.
Internationally, companies such as BMW, Mercedes, Korean and Toyota are developing bumpers, some of which have already passed crash tests.


 
Aluminum foam bumpers can be constructed in two ways:
 
(1) ordinary car bumper, with aluminum foam as the core, the panel is 1mm thick cold-rolled steel plate, the core is 20-30mm thick aluminum foam plate, only the front horizontal bumper can fully absorb the impact kinetic energy when the speed of 48km/h.
 
(2) bridge-type aluminum foam bumper, with energy absorption box supported at both ends, and aluminum foam energy absorption block installed in the energy absorption box. During impact, the aluminum foam energy absorption block compresses and absorbs the impact kinetic energy.
 
The energy absorption performance of aluminum foam of various materials is different, and the order of its capacity is: aluminum silicon alloy aluminum foam < pure aluminum foam < deformation aluminum alloy aluminum foam < carbon fiber composite aluminum foam.
 
The high energy absorption performance is 6000 series deformed aluminum foam and carbon fiber reinforced aluminum foam, which is suitable for making car bumpers.
The density of aluminum foam is about 0.6g/cm3, and it has a strong ability to absorb kinetic energy and make a better bumper.
